Workshop Description: Step into the role of a confident, high‑impact PE consultant. This immersive training is designed to move beyond theory and equip participants with the advanced skills needed to consult on Prolonged Exposure therapy with clarity, consistency, and fidelity. The workshop will begin with a focused review of the theoretical foundations and empirical evidence supporting PE, followed by a brief but practical overview of core PE procedures and assessment strategies. The majority of the training will be devoted to hands‑on consultation skill development. Participants will learn how to clearly articulate and evaluate essential elements of PE treatment rationales and sessions, systematically assess therapist adherence and competence using the PE Consultant Manual, and practice rating PE sessions while delivering effective, actionable feedback. Through guided practice and applied learning, this workshop will prepare participants to support therapists with confidence and precision. Attendees will receive comprehensive workshop materials, adherence rating scales, and the PE Consultant Manual—tools that can be used immediately in consultation and supervision settings.

At the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss theoretical and empirical background of PE
  • Review PE therapy procedures with illustrations from cases treated by CTSA experts
  • Summarize supervision methods and formats
  • Provide corrective feedback on the conduct of PE rationales, using cases treated by novices
  • Provide corrective feedback on the conduct of in-vivo and imaginal exposure techniques
  • Provide feedback on the effective management of over- and under-engagement in imaginal exposure
  • Provide corrective feedback on post-exposure processing of guilt, shame, and anger
  • Evaluate PE sessions using adherence and competence rating scales
