Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine

Amber Calloway, Ph.D (she/her) is the Director of the TEAM clinic, an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, and a licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Calloway earned her Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Boston and completed her APA internship and a clinical postdoctoral fellowship at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Penn Collaborative for CBT and Implementation Science, where she continues to support increasing access to CBT and other evidence-based practices in under-resourced community settings through training and research. Dr. Calloway’s research and clinical work focuses on culturally responsive approaches to the implementation of CBT. She has worked with a broad range of clinical populations, in a range of clinical settings, including partial hospital programs, the VA hospital system, college counseling centers, and private practice. Dr. Calloway is committed to ensuring clients in the TEAM clinic receive high quality care informed by evidence-based interventions.


Paul Burkat, M.D., PhD

Dr. Burkat is a general adult Psychiatrist with additional certification in Addiction Medicine. He focuses primarily on the psychopharmacological management of mood, anxiety, and psychosis disorders. His research interest includes physiologically based pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic modeling of medications in clinical use and compounds associated with addiction. He is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, and the American College of Clinical Pharmacology.

Xavier Diao, M.D.

Xavier Diao, M.D.

Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry

Xavier Diao, MD (he/him) is an attending psychiatrist at the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, he is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine and a Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. He earned his undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland, as well as his doctoral degree in Medicine. Dr. Diao completed his psychiatry residency training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, received further training in child and adolescent psychiatry from the bi-campus program at Columbia and Cornell, and finished a psychoanalytic fellowship at the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute. 

Dr. Diao believes in the integrative model of psychiatric treatment—that patient-centered care is optimized by evidence-based medication management and collaboration with therapists and counselors. His therapeutic orientation is informed by psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and dialectical behavior modalities. He has expertise in the treatment of a diverse range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD. Dr. Diao uses a developmentally-informed, trauma-focused, and LGBTQ-affirmative approach in his practice, with the aim of enriching meaning and alleviating suffering in the domains of love, work, and play.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Kate Ingram is a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at Penn Medicine. She earned her MSN at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in 2021. Prior to this, Kate worked as a registered nurse on a cardiac unit. Her clinical focus is primarily in psychopharmacologic treatment of mood and anxiety disorders as well as regular collaboration with psychotherapy providers.  Kate is also involved in the clinical supervision of nurse practitioner students at Penn Medicine.


Karyn Kollonige, NP

Karyn Kollonige, NP

Karyn Kollonige (she/her) is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from La Salle University in 2023. Before pursuing graduate training, Karyn worked in the Heart and Vascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she developed expertise in managing acute crises, staying calm under pressure, and applying advanced medication management. Her experience also strengthened her skills in therapeutic communication, de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, and interdisciplinary collaboration—all of which shape her holistic approach to psychiatric care.  

Following graduation, Karyn worked in private practice psychiatry, treating patients with a range of mental health diagnoses. She is now excited to rejoin Penn Medicine as a nurse practitioner, bringing her passion for compassionate, patient-centered care. Outside of work, Karyn enjoys spending time with her kids, partner, family, and friends. She loves to travel, with a particular passion for Disney.


Najla Ross-Green

Care Manager

Najla is a dedicated and experienced Medical Care Manager with a strong background in case management. Holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Hampton University and a Master of Science degree in General Psychology from Purdue University, Najla brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the team.

Passionate about providing resources and driven by a commitment to excellence, Najla is known for her flexibility and willingness to go above and beyond the scope of work to ensure optimal patient care. With a keen ability to navigate complex cases and a compassionate approach, Najla consistently delivers outstanding support and guidance to clients.

In addition to her professional skills, Najla brings a collaborative spirit and innovative problem-solving abilities to the team. Their dedication to continuous improvement and patient advocacy makes them an invaluable asset to our organization.


Max Stern, MSN, CRNP, PMHNP-BC, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Max Stern, MSN, CRNP, PMHNP-BC, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Max Stern (he/him) is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, having earned his Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) in 2021 from the Mass General Hospital Institute of Health Professions (MGH IHP) in Boston, MA.  Prior to pursuing graduate training Max worked as a case manager - facilitating chronically unhoused individuals find homes around Philadelphia. Max continued his passion for community-based work while at the MGH IHP, completing his clinical rotations at the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Project and the South End Community Health Center. While pursuing his MSN, Max worked as a registered nurse on the Short Term Unit at McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA; where he facilitated patients in overcoming crisis and developing new coping skills. Max’s combined experiences in community and inpatient settings have fostered a collaborative clinical style, one that values shared decision making with clients. Additionally, Max works to explore the range of contributors to mental health disorders, including social determinants (eg housing, access to health care, experience of racism), medical diagnoses, social and family history to guide selection of appropriate psychopharmacological and behavioral treatment regimens.  In his free time Max enjoys biking, camping, and reading. 


Rosalyn Washington

Medical Case Manager/ Care Manager

As a Care Manager for the entire Penn Medicine Behavioral Health system the goal is to provide community resources, assistance with mypennmedcine access, and array of any other services that benefit patients. By providing compassion, addressing concerns, being a clinical support gives patients continuity of care in a therapeutic and professional environment.

As a graduate from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Counseling, and a minor in Addictions Rosalyn gained numerous skills that is implemented daily. Being employed in numerous human service arenas in Philadelphia and Maryland. Such as the Drug Treatment Court, the child welfare system, serving the Intellectual Disabilities population, the Health Department’s Prevention unit, and working within the Philadelphia Women’s Prison focused on maternal and child health issues. I am a trained Doula, Co-parenting/ Parenting facilitator, Life Skills instructor, Prenatal Instructor, and an Afterschool Instructor that used evidence-based curriculums, and assessment tools/screenings. Rosalyn is very passionate about assisting people by being inclusive and practicing mindfulness, while taking a holistic approach. Rosalyn is an advocate for others, takes initiative, has strong case management skills, collaborates with staff and is an invaluable asset.

Marissa Adamczyk (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned her master’s degree in counseling from Arcadia University, with certificates in child and family therapy and trauma. Her experience includes providing therapy in both school and community mental health settings. Prior to joining the TEAMS Clinic, Marissa worked at a group outpatient practice, where she helped clients dealing with grief and loss, anxiety, trauma, depression, and interpersonal issues. Marissa is passionate about helping clients identify and leverage their own strengths to achieve their goals. She utilizes a collaborative, client-centered approach and draws from various modalities based on clients’ needs, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), systems theory, and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR).


Dana Charmoy, LCSW

Dana Charmoy (sher/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Dana completed a double master’s program in clinical social work and human sexuality education through Widener University in 2009. She has had experience working with diverse populations and across the lifespan. Dana has experience in various environments including inpatient eating disorder unit, family based therapy, community mental health and private practice. Dana works from a person centered, strength based, and integrated approach looking at the person, family and community. Dana utilizes various modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Relational Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. Dana has worked with adults, children and couples with depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, and attachment disorders.


Chris Chianese, CRNP

Chris Chianese, CRNP

Chris Chianese is a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at Penn Medicine. He earned his MSN at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in 2024. Prior to this, Chris worked as a clinical research nurse at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in the HIV prevention research division. Here, he worked on clinical trials exploring the safety and efficacy of numerous biomedical interventions for the prevention of HIV, Covid-19, and other infectious diseases. Prior to becoming a nurse, Chris was the project director of biomedical research at Fenway Health located in Boston, Massachusetts.  His clinical focus is primarily in psychopharmacologic treatment of mood and anxiety disorders as well as regular collaboration with providers of psychotherapy. Chris has additional interests in sexual health, LGBTQ+ health, and addressing health care disparities amongst underserved populations.


Patrick Farrell, LPC

Patrick Farrell (he/him) is a Licensed Professional Counselor. He earned his MS after attending Thomas Jefferson University’s Community and Trauma Counseling Program in 2021. Since graduating, Patrick has worked with racially and culturally diverse populations of all ages experiencing anxiety, depression, psychosis, personality disorders, and trauma related stress. Patrick employs techniques derived from DBT, strength-based approaches, and person-centered therapy. He is also trained in Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness, which aids his patients in finding a sense of safety and calm in their mind and body as they work in the therapeutic process. In 2017, Patrick graduated from Temple University with a BA in Jazz Performance and based on client needs, will utilize creative arts approaches in practice to assist in emotion processing. His therapeutic approach focuses on assisting the patient in achieving their most authentic means of being and moving throughout life.


Linnae Homza, LPC

Linnae Homza, LPC (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor who graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2017 with a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling. Since becoming licensed in 2020, she has gained extensive experience in treating complex mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, PTSD, and personality disorders. Her professional journey began at The Light Program's Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), where she discovered her passion for group therapy with adult populations.

Linnae has progressively advanced into leadership roles, serving as a Lead Therapist in the Northeast Philadelphia PHP, where she was instrumental in developing and expanding the program. Most recently, Linnae served as a Clinical Supervisor and Outpatient Clinician at High Focus Centers in Radnor.

Utilizing a multifaceted therapeutic approach, Linnae integrates cognitive, affective, behavioral, and systemic interventions, such as CBT, DBT, and ACT. Her strongest therapeutic interest and passion lies in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques, focusing on teaching mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation skills. Her ultimate goal is to help individuals improve their relationships and behaviors, resolve trauma, develop self-acceptance, and create A Life Worth Living.

Katelyn Kennedy (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and earned her MSW from Boston College in 2017 with a concentration in mental health and a certificate in Trauma. Katelyn’s focus during her time in Boston was working with older adolescents and adults on issues related to substance use, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, and overall health and wellness. Katelyn’s clinical work has been influenced by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and motivational enhancement. Katelyn approaches therapy with an emphasis on a strong therapeutic alliance to help empower clients to achieve their goals and improve their mental health and well-being.

Emily (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor and earned her MA in Clinical-Counseling Psychology from LaSalle University in 2014. She has provided individual and group therapy in outpatient, residential, and PHP/IOP settings, primarily utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Emily has also been certified in Recovery Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R) from the Beck Institute. She has experience working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, and psychosis. Her approach to treatment emphasizes the importance of a strong therapeutic alliance to collaboratively create change and improve quality of life.


Kathryn Rim, MSW, LCSW

Kathryn Rim is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and earned her MSW degree in 2012 from Rutgers University.  Kathryn completed a post-graduate certificate course in CBT from Bryn Mawr School of Social Work in 2016 and completed EMDR level II training in 2017. Her experience includes working with older adults in a PACE program, seeing individual adult clients in private practice setting and working in an integrated behavioral health program in PCP offices. She has worked with clients who present with trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic pain/illness, grief and loss, perinatal mood disorders and postpartum depression/anxiety. Kathryn takes a strengths-based and client-centered approach and often utilizes CBT, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care when working with clients. She strongly believes in taking a collaborative approach to patient care with an emphasis on the therapeutic relationship.

Joshua Sarnecky (he/him) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and earned his MSW in 2016 at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice. Joshua is certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and received formal training in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) at the University of Iowa. Joshua has worked with adults, adolescents, children, and families in school-based and community mental health settings in Pennsylvania and Iowa. Joshua has experience working with clients on the autism spectrum, individuals from the LGBTQ+ community, and other diverse groups. While utilizing cognitive and behavioral interventions with clients, Joshua approaches mental health from a strengths-based perspective and helps clients harness their own skills to overcome the challenges in their lives.

Hannah Sonnier (she/her or they/them) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who received their MSW at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice in 2019 and their Master's in Medical Sciences from the University of Kentucky in 2016.

Hannah received intensive training and supervision in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) from Linehan Board Certified clinicians and has experience delivering comprehensive DBT as part of a formalized consultation team. They have provided DBT and DBT-informed therapy to support high-risk adolescents and adults in inpatient and outpatient settings to develop and strengthen distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness skill sets. They are passionate about helping patients build lives worth living regardless of diagnosis, trauma history, or systemic barriers. They believe in providing evidenced-based interventions that meet patients where they are at and promote self-directed growth, lasting behavioral change, and a strengthened trust in yourself and your abilities. 


Steve Wadden, LCSW

Steve Wadden is a licensed clinical social worker. He received his Master’s in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020. Prior to joining the TEAM clinic, Steve worked as an outpatient therapy provider at the Penn Center for Mental Health. He has experience working with adult clients to address a range of presenting issues, including depression, anxiety, substance use, complex trauma, and general life stressors. Steve draws from a range of modalities in his clinical work, including cognitive and behavioral approaches, person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy. He believes that a therapist's most important job is to create an accepting and affirming space in which clients have the support that they need to work towards their mental health goals.

Lucy Warrington (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and earned her MSW in 2015 in clinical social work from Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work in New York City. Lucy received post-graduate training in Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) at the Beck Institute and as part of a post-master’s certificate program in Advanced Clinical Practice at NYU’s Silver School of Social Work. Lucy also completed post-graduate training in family therapy at the Ackerman Institute for the Family in NYC. Lucy has worked with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples in her clinical practice. Lucy has worked with clients on presenting issues that include anxiety, depression, trauma, school/academic issues, and relationship problems. Her approach to providing therapy is collaborative and strengths-based. Lucy’s theoretical orientation to therapy is informed by psychodynamic training and systems theory, and by the theories that ground CBT and related types of therapies. Lucy tends to use CBT and more action-oriented therapies because she knows this kind of therapy has proven to be very effective and it fits well with a collaborative approach to therapy.


Kandice Witherspoon, LPC, Psychotherapist

Kandice Witherspoon is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned her MS degree in 2005 from Springfield College, and earned an MA degree in 2011 from Waynesburg University. She has worked in a variety of areas in the mental health field in Pittsburgh, PA and Philadelphia PA; including hospitals, community agencies and private practice. Her theoretical orientation is strongly influenced by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. She has worked with children, families, adolescents and adults from diverse populations and orientations. Kandice has four years experience of supervising masters' level clinicians within BHRS and outpatient settings. She earned a 2yr certificate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in partnership with Comhar and The Beck Institute. Kandice believes in patient-centered care and a collaborative approach to assist patients with becoming their best self.

Throughout her career, Meredith has launched successful initiatives, overhauled operations, and led transformative programs that modernize care delivery and business practices. She brings a rare blend of vision, precision, and agility—turning bold ideas into measurable success.
