Mission Statement

Faculty Affairs and Professional Development (FAPD) works with the leadership, faculty and administrators of the Perelman School of Medicine and the Health System to support an overarching goal of PENN Medicine - the implementation of the highest standards of excellence in academic medicine.  The mission of FAPD is to support this goal by facilitating the recruitment and appointment, promotion, and retention of distinguished faculty.

We fulfill this mission by a commitment to:

  • Overseeing and facilitating proactive administration of all aspects of policies and processes relating to faculty recruitments and appointments, reappointments and promotions and other faculty employment actions
  • Developing, interpreting, communicating and administering University and Perelman School of Medicine policies and initiatives related to faculty employment
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures and external regulations relating to faculty employment, including affirmative action/equal employment opportunity policies
  • Supporting faculty careers from appointment through retirement through Advance, the faculty professional development program and other mentoring initiatives
  • Serving as official resource for faculty data
  • Supporting initiatives relating to faculty diversity
  • Serving as a liaison and a resource to other schools and offices of the Perelman School of Medicine, Health System and University
