Glossary

An organization is group intentionally organized to accomplish an overall, common goal or set of goals. An organization is also an integrated social system, often divided into smaller units, teams, or departments, that has various inputs or resources (such as raw materials, money, technology and people).

Organizational Development is defined as a "system-wide process of applying behavioral science knowledge to the planned change and development of the strategies, design components and processes that enable organizations to be effective." (Cummings, 2004, p.25)

Individual-Level behavior change focuses on intrapersonal factors such as knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, motivation, self-concept, past experience, and skills.

Coalition development activities - a planned gathering of some or all coalition members primarily intended to educate , equip o r enlarge coalition membership (Kluhsman and others, 2006, p. 3)

Community interventions - planned events sponsored or cosponsored by the coalition and primarily intended to directly change behavior, detect risk or disease or educate persons outside of the coalition (Kluhsman and others, 2006, p. 3)
