As Education Officers, you support faculty members in their roles as teachers, from onboarding through reappointment and promotion, and oversee department-level coaching and remediation to improve teaching. Faculty may also look to you for basic knowledge of how teaching pertains to policies and procedures related to reappointments promotions. You are also in a unique position to help the department and school Committees On Appointments and Promotions better understand the teaching effort of faculty candidates for promotion. For example, if there are mitigating factors negatively affecting a candidate’s teaching evaluations, it is important you note these factors in the EO letter that is included in dossiers for promotion. At the same time, you are responsible for identifying faculty who may indeed need to further develop their teaching skills. This does not mean that you are required to personally mentor or coach each faculty member. Rather, your role is to refer faculty to available resources in a timely manner.
